Brief Biography:

  • Graduated from the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, majoring in Czech and English language
  • 1978–1979: scholarship stay at the Institute for the Czech Language, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (dialectology)
  • 1980–1981: instructor of internal training at Czechoslovak Radio
  • 1981–1987: editor of Early Czech Literature, Czechoslovak Publisher
  • Since 1987: assistant at the Department of Czech Language, Faculty of Arts, Charles University;
  • Since 1992: active in teacher education;
  • Since 1998: instructor of the program Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking (certified since 2002);
  • Since 1999: at the Faculty of Education, Charles University;
  • Since 2002: at the Department of Czech Literature, Faculty of Education, Charles University;
  • Retired since 2021

Professional Focus:

didactics of literature and language education, development of reading and writing skills in primary schools, reading and writing literacy according to the framework educational programme 2025 (RVP 2025), reading comprehension, interpretative approaches in literature teaching

Research Activities:

  • Chairperson of the civic association Friends of Engaged Learning (1994–1997)
  • Co-author of the “Green Book: Czech Education and Europe” (SVP PedF UK, 1998) and the White Book of the National Programme for the Development of Education (1999–2000)
  • Expert guarantor and certifier of the program Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking (since 1998/2002)
  • Collaboration on the methodology for implementing key competences into the Framework Educational Programme for Primary Schools (RVP-ZŠ) at the Institute for Education Development (VÚP), Prague
  • Authorship contribution to ESF projects: Cross-cutting Topics and Reading; Preparation of Reading and Writing Literacy for RVP 2025
