Welcome to the Department of Czech Literature

The Department of Czech Literature at the Faculty of Education, Charles University, focuses primarily on the education of future teachers specializing in Czech literature and its didactics across all levels of the school system. Its aim is to equip graduates with the ability to lead their students toward a deep understanding of literary texts, to foster reading literacy, and to support critical thinking as well as the creative interpretation of literature.

The study program is based on a supportive, student-centered approach, offering extensive guidance not only throughout the course of study but also through a wide range of academic and cultural activities. The department is actively engaged in the continuing professional development of Czech literature educators and brings current insights and innovative teaching methods into its courses, responding to contemporary educational challenges and the broader social context.
